Human Education Society

The Animal Sanctuary, Wilmslow is run by the Humane Education Society, a charitable organisation working for a more compassionate society through education and practical work with children and animals.

The Humane Education Society was established in Manchester in 1927. A move to Wilmslow in the late sixties enabled the creation of the Society’s own Animal Sanctuary.

The founding members were passionate about helping people, especially the young and disadvantaged, develop a generous and compassionate character by a deeper understanding and compassion for animals, which would in turn benefit the whole of society.
